Designers first, managers reluctantly.
Motif is eight people on a quay in Antwerp — designers, animators, and one engineer who thinks in easing curves. No account layer, no juniors quietly assigned to your work. The people in this room are the people on the job.

The people on the job

We hire slowly — one person a year, usually someone we've admired for three. If that could be you, write to us. Show one thing you made move.
What we believe
Motion is meaning
How something moves tells you what it is — trustworthy, playful, expensive, alive. We treat easing curves the way type designers treat serifs: as the personality, not the polish.
Small on purpose
Eight people is a decision, not a phase. It keeps the founders in the files, the meetings short, and the standard where we set it. We turn down more work than we take.
Ship, then stay
Launch is the middle of the project, not the end. We stay for the season after — measuring, tightening, arguing gently about what earned its place.
Motif started in 2018 as two desks in a shared print shop — Mara doing identities by day, Jonas building the sites for them by night. The first client asked why the logo felt different on the website than on the box. The honest answer — because different people made them — became the founding grudge: one room, both crafts, no seams.
The name came later. A motif is the element that repeats — in a score, a pattern, an identity. It is also, if you say it with intent, an instruction: move. We took the pun as a brief and have been executing it since — for roasters, hoteliers, chefs, furniture makers, and one television series about very small sounds.
